The Golden Hour

pretty, pretty. pretty!

pretty, pretty. pretty!

Ok....so there is shadow.....it's not the bad kind!

Ok….so there is shadow…..it’s not the bad kind!

The dictionary identifies it as the first and last hour of sunlight during the day, when a specific photographic effect is achieved due to the quality of the light. I am constantly reading about people, from the amateur photographer to the professional, claiming that one must get out and take pictures during the golden hour. This hour is when the magic happens. The light is softer and warmer, not harsh like it is during midday…..and of course one will not have to deal with any of those pesky shadows that always seem to ruin what would have been a masterpiece. So one day last week, I jumped on my bike during that last hour of light, and ventured out….in search of a moment to capture. I am no Annie Leibovitz or Ansel Adams, but I do get what everyone is talking about now….shooting during the golden hour makes me appear to be a much better photographer than I really am. This is one tip I will value and use often. Thanks!

  3. I really liked this post…especially the sentence: “shooting during the golden hour makes me appear to be a much better photographer than I really am”. I love that fact, which is why the golden hour is so wonderful. Cheers!
